    About Dr. Ronen Bergman

Dr. Ronen Bergman, an internationally recognized leading expert in his field, is a Senior Correspondent for Military and Intelligence Affairs for Yedioth Ahronoth, Israel’s largest circulated daily newspaper while also a contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine – writing extensively on Middle Eastern politics and affairs.

Published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Foreign Affairs, Newsweek, Bloomberg, The Times, Guardian, Der Spiegel, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and GQ Magazine, Dr. Bergman is frequently interviewed by major US broadcasting and cable networks, the BBC, and Al-Jazeera.

Dr. Bergman is the author of five best selling Hebrew language non-fiction books, covering topics that range from government corruption and conflict in the Middle East to Israel’s POWs and MIAs, the Iranian nuclear project, and Mossad activities. A translation of Dr. Bergman’s  third book, The Secret War with Iran, was published in the United States by Simon & Schuster and was described by The Economist as “an enthralling read”.

Currently working on his sixth book, based on some 650 exclusive interviews and never-published highly classified documents, Dr. Bergman will tell the never before released history and operations of the famed Israeli intelligence agency, the Mossad. This book will be published by Random House in the United Stated and Germany and by Gallimard in France.

Presently, Dr. Bergman is working on the development of a film script based on his book on Israeli POWs and MIAs in collaboration with critically-acclaimed Israeli director Amos Gitai.

Throughout his journalistic career, Dr. Bergman has championed the causes of freedom of information and freedom of the press; often taking his battles with the Israeli security establishment to the courts in order to protect the public’s right to know. These campaigns and the publications of his stories were not left unnoticed. The establishment, led by Mossad, has used various methods to try and stop Dr. Bergman including electronic and physical surveillance of him and his alleged sources as well as court prosecution.

Dr. Bergman’s books and articles are often based on classified military and intelligence material to which he has been granted exclusive access. Over the years, he has brought to light numerous issues of considerable public interest including the first interviews ever published with members of the Mossad’s special operations unit; the sale of dual-use chemical raw materials and technology to Iran by an Israeli businessman; the case of “Agent Babylon,” the aide to Egyptian President Sadat who was an Israeli spy; the diversion of Palestinian tax revenues to the personal bank account of Yassir Arafat; the production of fertilizer from the bones of Holocaust victims at an Italian factory during World War II; illegal medical experiments conducted on Israeli soldiers as part of a joint US-Israeli effort to develop a vaccine against anthrax; and various institutional corruption scandals in Israel. Dr. Bergman is the first (and only) journalist ever permitted to join an undercover targeted killing ground operation as well as the only journalist ever present in a drown command post while a targeted killing operation took place.

Dr. Bergman, a recipient of several Israeli and International journalism awards, frequently lectures to academic and military audiences as well as to the general public. He has been a guest lecturer at academic forums at major universities and institutions in Israel and abroad including, but not limited to: The Council on Foreign Relations, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, NYU, Oxford, and Cambridge, and at military and intelligence forums in Israel, the United States and England.
